Note on ACEA categories: ACEA periodically revises its Oil Sequences, most recently in 2022–2024, and some heavy-duty categories referenced by product name (such as E9) sit within an overlap or legacy period alongside newer categories (such as E11). Confirm the currently valid category for a specific engine against the ACEA Oil Sequences or with the Sinopec Online technical team before ordering.

OEM approvals and factory-fill relationships

Beyond meeting industry standards, specific Sinopec products carry direct technical approval from vehicle and equipment manufacturers. Documented approvals include:

  • Mercedes-Benz: approval against MB-Approval sheet 229.31, referencing application sheet 223.2
  • Renault: RN-series after-sales approval
  • BMW: approval for specified engine oil grades (e.g. JP1 0W-30)

Sinopec lubricants are also listed as suitable, or used as factory-fill, by manufacturers including Allison, Alstom, Caterpillar, Cummins, Case & John Deere, Detroit Diesel, Eaton, GE, MAN, Porsche, Scania, Toyota, Voith, Volvo, Volkswagen and ZF, according to the Sinopec Online FAQ. In China, Sinopec is the first-fit lubricant for major domestic OEM groups including FAW-Volkswagen, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, SAIC-GM, SAIC Volkswagen and Chery.

If a vehicle or machine already runs on an OEM-approved lubricant from another major brand, a Sinopec product carrying the same OEM approval number or the same API/ACEA/DIN category is a valid substitute. The approval number, not the brand, is what the manufacturer's warranty terms rely on.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sinopec oil compatible with my current brand of oil?
Sinopec lubricants are generally compatible with other mineral and synthetic lubricants of the same base oil type and performance category, but a full oil change rather than top-up mixing is recommended when switching brands, in line with standard lubrication practice for any brand change.
Does switching to Sinopec affect an OEM warranty?
Using a lubricant that meets or exceeds the OEM-specified viscosity grade, performance category and any named approval number does not, in itself, affect a manufacturer's warranty. Confirm the exact approval requirement in the equipment manual.
